Records of the Summer St. Fire Committee, a private charitable organization founded in 1872 to provide relief for the victims of the Boston fire of that year. (The Summer St. area was among the hardest hit by the fire.) The collection includes records of proceedings (1872-1907); various account books, including contributions and accounts with branches of the committee to aid men and working women (1872-82); a letterbook of outgoing correspondence (1872-73); requests for aid and action taken (1872-73); and letters to the treasurer Otis Norcross enclosing donations (1872-74). In 1906, all remaining funds of the committee were transferred to the Mass. Charitable Fire Society.
